Steve Sostak, a famous saxophonist and singer, passed away recently at the age of 49. The cause of death is still unknown. Faye Kolly, a longtime Sostak acquaintance, paid tribute to him on Facebook in a lengthy message, saying:
“I’ve been considering how to honor the memory of a long-lost friend. We haven’t spoken since college, but hearing about his death and witnessing the great pain and memories of my friends and friends of friends has struck a raw nerve.”
Sostak was described by Kolly as a “bright light” by those who knew and loved him. Sostak was described by Kolly as someone who was enthusiastic about music and the band.
He was a member who was always eager to participate in a planned Amnesty International letter campaign on campus. Kolly claimed that changing the lyrics to “It’s a shame about Ray” was one of her favorite college memories. She continued, saying:
“Even though I dislike the song, the irony and good nature of the performance still get to me when I hear it. He did well in college and in life despite a sea of conformity. He was always honest with himself.”
Kolly asked that everyone contact people who had long been in contact with Steve Sostak. Kolly said that everyone would miss him and that his life had meaning. The post ended with:
“My heartfelt sympathies to my Facebook pals who may be reading this and are grieving his demise. However, you do not need to know him to remember him. Call your contacts and make contact with the people who are important to you.”
