Many football fans have long believed that the coach was never married. We’re not sure when Rita and Coach Stump married, but they have five children: Eric, Reco, Shawn, Lionel, and Gail. Some may recall Gail from her roles in the TV series Snowfall. In interviews, Gail has never mentioned her father, instead emphasizing her mother and Rita’s influence on her life.
After five seasons, the Cleveland Browns have parted ways with their running back coach. Mitchell sat down for an exclusive interview following his dismissal and stated that he has no ill will against the Browns organization or head coach Kevin Stefanski. But Stump brought up running back Kareem Hunt, questioning the 28-year-old’s work ethic. He claimed that he wasn’t getting the most out of Kareem.
Is Stump Mitchell Married or Dating Anyone?
Rita Mitchell is the wife of the Cleveland Browns’ coach Stump Mitchell. She teaches high school science. The football coach rarely discusses his family, so it’s unclear whether Stump and Rita have broken up. They are married and have five children. Most football fans are aware that a coach’s family information will be placed on the team’s website.
The websites don’t go into great detail, but they do include the coach’s marriage and the names of his wives and children. However, the Cleveland Browns website has not done anything similar with their former coach. This may lead folks to believe Coach Stump is unmarried and has no children.
However, in a 2007 interview with the Seattle Seahawks website, Stump revealed that he had children. When asked about a noteworthy moment in his life outside of football, the coach replied, “The birth of my children – nothing else compares to that.” Mitchell coached the Seattle Seahawks from 1999 to 2007. He was the running backs coach.
The football coach has no social media profiles, thus little is known about his personal life. Mitchell has already spoken about his family life before marriage. The football coach’s single mother raised him and his six siblings in Georgia. His older brother gave him the nickname Stump.

Stump Mitchell, a former football player, has five children with his wife, Rita Mitchell. One of his children was a former Alabama athlete. Stump’s son, Lionel Mitchell, is a cornerback who previously played for Nick Saban’s team in 2005 and 2006. Lionel graduated from Stephenson High School and went to Alabama in 2005.
Lionel played in five games and took 40 photos in his rookie year. In his second year at Alabama, Lionel made his first career start against Vanderbilt, finishing with 25 tackles, four interceptions, and one pass breakup. According to a 2008 source, the cornerback’s career at Alabama has ended.
Lionel received a medical scholarship owing to recurring lower back pain. However, the cornerback attended East Stroudsburg University and attempted to revive his football career. Later that year, Lionel was expected to compete for ESU in the 2009 Valero Cactus Bowl.
Lionel uses Instagram and is the father of four children. Stump Mitchell’s other children, Reco, Shawn, and Eric, have maintained a low profile. Many people may not be aware that Gail Bean, an American actress, is the daughter of football coach Rita Mitchell. Gail has been in the TV series Snowfall and Paradise Lost.
Gail has 450k Instagram followers and shared a photo with Stump in 2020. She captioned the image:
