Sydney Sweeney Opened Up About The White Supremacist Accusations Against Her

Sydney Sweeney

The Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney has finally spoken out about the white nationalist allegations she has been facing since August.

On Friday, November 11, 2022, the 25-year-old said that the dispute is equivalent to a “wildfire” in a cover interview for British GQ’s 25th Men of the Year edition. She stated, ”

“To be honest, I don’t believe anything I say will improve the conversation. It’s turned into a raging fire, and nothing I can say will put it out.”

Sydney Sweeney faced backlash in August after sharing photos from her mother’s 60th birthday celebration. Several attendees were seen wearing red hats with the inscription “Make 60 Great Again,” which was inspired by conservative, far-right Donald Trump supporters’ use of “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) caps.

One of the guests appeared to be wearing a Blue Lives Matter shirt. The term arose in response to the Black Lives Matter movement to indicate support for police officers. Trent Sweeney, Sweeney’s brother, also shared photos of people wearing the controversial headwear from the party. The photos sparked widespread discussion, with many speculating about the actress’s and her family’s political views and condemning her for it.

Sydney Sweeney grew up in Spokane County, Washington, about 20 miles from the Idaho state line. When she first learned of the internet backlash directed at her following the incident, she exclaimed, “this is insane.” She stated that this was not her intention, and she was perplexed that what was supposed to be a simple celebration of her mother’s milestone birthday had devolved into an outrageous political statement.

“My family doesn’t get me,” Sydney Sweeney admits

Sydney Sweeney’s family was investigated after the birthday tweets, and the actress received a lot of backlash from fans. Netizens argued that Sweeney, as a prominent figure, should confront her family’s actions and the white supremacist connotations of her outfit choice.

The actress made no further comments other than to admit that she believes nothing she says can help to refocus the debate. In the GQ interview, the White Lotus actress expressed her dissatisfaction with living in a “in-between position,” claiming that her relatives and friends in the region did not understand her or her world.

Sweeney went on to say:

“When I return home, my family no longer understands me or the environment I’m in. However, in my business, my house and the location that I call home are very different from how other people live.”

Sydney Sweeney grew up mostly in rural northern Idaho. She moved to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career as an actress. She continued, saying she was in an “in-between situation” in which “neither side understands me.” In the same interview, Sydney Sweeney stated that her family members were “mainly Rues,” a reference to her Euphoria co-star Zendaya’s character, who has a history of drug abuse.

Watching her relatives, aunts, and uncles succumb to addiction and the effects it has on the community, according to The Handmaid’s Tale actress, has discouraged her from experimenting with drugs or alcohol. Sydney Sweeney has been vocal about her appreciation for her family, particularly her mother’s unwavering support throughout her career. In an August interview with the Los Angeles Times, she stated that her parents’ support was crucial to her acting career and that they “gave up everything they knew” for her to pursue her dreams, referring to their move to Los Angeles.

She went on to say:

“I didn’t have any contacts. I didn’t come from a wealthy family…but I had parents who always believed in me.”

Sydney Sweeney is best known for her role as Cassie Howard in HBO’s Euphoria.
