Taco attended Pickerington High School in Pickerington, Ohio. Later, he played football at the University of Michigan. In secondary school, he also participated in basketball. He received a sports scholarship and went to the University of Michigan.

As a reserve defensive end in 2013, Taco participated in ten games. He participated in 12 contests as a sophomore in 2014. As a junior, he played in 13 games and made 30 stops in addition to 5.5 sacks. He recorded a total of 38 stops during his senior year in 2016.
