His religious beliefs are never mentioned in his interviews or on social media. Instead, the Texas native, who was born to American parents Micah and Leann Mordecai, uses social media to share photos of his family and games. Tanner Mordecai (born November 8, 1999) is a Wisconsin Badgers quarterback under head coach Luke Fickell. After previously playing for the Oklahoma Sooners (2018-20) and the SMU Mustangs (2021-22), he joined the transfer portal in December 2023 for his final season at Wisconsin.

He was a member of the SMU Mustangs under head coach Rhett Lashlee in the 2022 New Mexico Bowl. They were defeated by the BYU Cougars, however, by a score of 23-24. He achieved a career-high in 2021 with 308 pass completions on 454 attempts for 3,628 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Tanner Mordecai Religion: Is He Jewish?

So far, the American collegiate quarterback has not spoken publicly about his beliefs. The surname “Mordecai” is Jewish, according to historical documents. ‘Mordecai: An Early American Family,’ by Emily Bingham, examines early American history and the Mordecai family’ struggle to adjust to American culture as Jews.

This, however, does not necessarily suggest Tanner’s faith has come to an end. On Facebook, his mother posted photos of the family spending Christmas standing in front of the Christmas tree. Taylor, his eldest sister, married in a traditional Christian church ceremony, as previously reported.

Tanner’s brother-in-law, AJ, is a devout Christian who is frequently seen on social media wearing a cross necklace. Some say that Oklahoma alum Tanner Mordecai is Christian because of his family’s devotion to Christmas and religion. Even if the football player does not express his religious beliefs, it is apparent that his devotion to faith drives him to succeed.

Tanner Mordecai’s Ethnicity: Family & Nationality

The 24-year-old football player is of American origin and was born in Waco, Texas. His father’s and mother’s families are both Caucasian. However, the roots of his forebears are uncertain. Tanner’s late maternal grandfather, Ernest Slovak (b. February 26, 1943 – d. September 20, 2020), grew up in Crowell, Texas.

His funeral took place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption. His grandfather’s surname, “Slovak,” is thought to be of Slovak origin. According to sources, his father, Micah Mordecai, a chiropractor, and mother, Leann Mordecai, a radiology technologist, have been married for 26 years.

After meeting in a hospital, they married in 1998. Tanner is the youngest of three children born to his parents. His two older sisters are Destinee (born November 1987) and Taylor Mordecai Roland (born April 2, 1997).

Destinee played softball at the University of Kentucky from 2007 to 2010, where she graduated in 2010. She later graduated from Texas A&M in 2019. She has a son named Liam, but no information is available about her husband.

Taylor, Tanner’s younger sister, graduated from Midwestern State University in 2019. Since June 13, 2020, she has been married to AJ Roland, whom she met in college. The couple’s daughter, Austyn, was born in December 2022.
