Taurean Blacque played Detective Neal Washington in the NBC police procedural Hill Street Blues. He joined the show in 1981 and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series that year. Taurean’s character was a no-nonsense officer who wore a toothpick and a hat all the time. His and his colleague, Detective J.D. LaRue’s, police work occasionally violated the rules. Although LaRue’s antics occasionally irritated Washington, the two remained devoted to one another.
Hill Street Blues was a television show that aired from January 1981 to May 1987 and chronicled the lives of police officers in a small police station on Hill Street. The show received positive feedback from critics and audiences alike, and it was nominated for 26 Emmy Awards.
Blacque Blacque, who was born on May 10, 1940, began his career in New York City’s New Federal Theater. He went on to appear in sitcoms like What’s Happening!!, The Bob Newhart Show, Good Times, and Taxi, among others. After auditioning for other TV shows, he was cast in Hill Street Blues. Following the cancellation of the show, he continued to act in theater, winning an NAACP Image Award in 1985 for his role in Amen Corner.
He rose to prominence through his performances in the theater, most notably in the musical Don’t Get God Started. Taurean then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to provide a better environment for his children, and he continued to perform on stage and on television. The actor rose to prominence after appearing in Yolanda King in 1987 and Ceremonies in Dark Old Men in 1988.
Blacque played a police officer in the pilot episode of the CBS series Off-Duty. He played Roscoe in Disney’s animated feature Oliver & Company. In 1989, he played Henry Marshall in the NBC soap opera Generations. The same year, he appeared in the science fiction film DeepStar Six.
The County of Los Angeles Adoption Services office invited Blacque to be their ambassador despite the fact that he had never adopted a child. Later, the actor stated that because he was unmarried, he couldn’t adopt a child. Blacque, on the other hand, adopted ten children and had two biological sons.
