The 32-year-old singer paid an unannounced visit to the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival at New York City’s Beacon Theater, where she spoke about her directing work on the music video All Too Well: The Short Film, how she overcame impostor syndrome, and her plans to eventually produce a full-length feature film.

“I had a natural curiosity. I was always looking for information, reading, and attempting to learn as much as I could. Basically, after a few music videos [in my career], I started getting into the edit and making changes.

Taylor Swift also discussed her experience directing music videos, such as The Man, Cardigan, and Willow, which inspired her to write and direct All Too Well: The Short Film.

“It started with tinkering, and from tinkering with the edit, it advanced to writing the treatments for the music videos… That occurred roughly ten years ago.

Until 2019’s The Man, according to Taylor Swift, she would often make her music videos before giving them to an experienced filmmaker.

How did Taylor Swift handle imposter syndrome? What is it exactly?

The feeling of being an impostor, according to Very Well Mind, is known as impostor syndrome. A person who has impostor syndrome thinks they are a fraud and don’t belong where they are. They simply happened to be there. Regardless of socioeconomic status, employment history, skill level, or level of experience, anyone could be affected.

At the Tribeca Film Festival, Taylor Swift admitted to Mike Mills that she looked for a female director after coming up with the concept for The Man music video. Nevertheless, none that she knew of were reachable.

“It’s wonderful that all of my favorite female directors were booked and fairly busy. That’s wonderful.

The Miss Americana documentary for 2020 was currently being filmed by Taylor Swift. After conversing with the film’s director, Lana Wilson, she directed The Man herself, giving the singer-songwriter newfound inspiration. She remarked:

But before she could call herself a filmmaker, she had to get past self-doubt.

“I suppose I was experiencing impostor syndrome, which kept telling me, “No, you don’t do that. Some people who [directly] did this after attending school.

When Mills acknowledged that he, too, had not gone to directing school, Swift was pleased:

“Oh! That is helpful to know. I feel a little better now because of that. Don’t you think it’s great practice in going with your gut? There are various options available. Saying “I don’t know” or “I’m not sure” is rarely an acceptable response.

Since writing and directing the Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien-starring short film All Too Well: The Short Film, Swift’s aspirations as a filmmaker has increased. She said that directing a feature film would be “amazing,” and she would approach it the same way she did the short film.

“I don’t anticipate it getting much larger in terms of size. I appreciated working with such a small crew, simply a very strong group of people I trusted, to capture a photo that was so intimate.

In November 2021, Taylor Swift will release All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version), an extended version of the song from 2012’s Red that was featured on last year’s Red (Taylor’s Version), the most recent album in her continuous series of re-recordings.
