White met John Wayne in 1952 and began working as his double. The film, directed by Joseph Zito and released on April 13, 1984, had mediocre reviews but grossed over $33 million. White accepted the role because he needed money and requested anonymity on television.
Ted White was offered the opportunity to reprise his role in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning and Friday the 13th: Jason Lives, the next two films in the franchise. He declined to return, therefore Tom Morga and C.J. Graham were cast in his place.
