Amber Borzotra ended the ‘The Challenge: Ride or Dies’ reunion episode in tears after revealing that she was just diagnosed with autism.
Borzotra disclosed some personal news during the reunion for The Challenge: Ride or Dies. Amber disclosed at the conclusion of the episode that she had been diagnosed with autism.
Before making this declaration, she stated that she had only told her family and boyfriend, who was also her Ride or Dies co-star, Chauncey Palmer.
Amber added,
“I struggle in social settings, and this pressure has weighed heavily on me.” “In this game, I’ve used antidepressants and antianxiety medications, but I’ve told people I haven’t because it was embarrassing. It was humiliating for folks to give the impression that it wasn’t functioning. Hence, it was a deeper issue. After season 38, I needed assistance greatly. It’s been a struggle. I have to determine why I am this person, why I’ve felt this way my entire life, and why I am this way. I’m looking for my own group of people who can relate.”
Amber also spoke about what she has discovered about herself after receiving her diagnosis. “I disguise myself to blend in,” she explained. “So, if I observe someone hugging or performing another action, I imitate them. I’m not sure if you guys are aware, but I frequently rub my hands together, bite my lip, or twirl my hair.”
Amber acknowledged that it was “tough” to learn this information so late in life.
She shared,
“I wish I had discovered this much earlier because I fought with my identity for 34 years.”
“But, I love myself, and this has given me the opportunity to accept the incredible person I am.” Amber became overcome with emotion and began to cry, prompting her co-stars to console her.
“Your condition does not define you,” Nany Gonzalez assured her. Before this, we loved you, and we will continue to love you after.
Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio continued,
“When we’re on the show and filming and in that pressure cooker, it can be difficult for people to have compassion and be sympathetic because we’re all fighting for the same goal, but I don’t want you to believe that you’re on this stage or in the world by yourself. We truly care about and support you, despite the fact that it may not always appear that way.”
Amber shared additional news earlier in the reunion: she and Chauncey are expecting their first child together! She made the announcement on Instagram on January 22, before the airing of the reunion episode. The couple has been dating for more than a year before learning of the pregnancy.
