The well-known Egyptian actor Hesham Selim passed away on September 22, 2022, at the age of 64. Selim has fought cancer for a very long period. Ashraf Zaki, president of the Egyptian Actors Guild and Selim’s lifelong friend, announced the news via social media.
After viewing Selim’s Instagram post, many more individuals proceeded to honor him. According to Zaki, Selim will be buried in the Sheikh Zayed neighborhood of Greater Cairo, where he formerly resided.

Following a long battle, Hesham Selim succumbed to cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease in May 2022. During a live phone-in at the time, Selim verified his cancer diagnosis and claimed that he resided in Ain Al Sokhna, a Red Sea beach resort on the outskirts of Cairo.
Once the word spread, Selim’s admirers grew concerned about him, and while he was receiving treatment for his health problem, a large number of individuals were concerned for his well-being.
His old friend Zaki revealed in an interview two months ago that he had no contact with Selim. Selim then made a statement on Al Tase’a, a national discussion program.
“Thank God, I’m fine, and everything is going to be okay.” And perhaps, nowadays, having cancer is preferable to contracting Covid or any of the other illnesses that are fatal within three days. God’s gifts are amazing, and I am now doing well.
Hesham Selim’s career in the entertainment industry
Hesham Selim, who was born on January 27, 1958, completed his studies at the College de la Sainte-Famille. He subsequently attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the Superior Institute of Tourism and Hotels in London.
Selim began his career as an actor in 1972 with the film Embratoreyyet Meem and won his first leading role in 1976 with Awdat Al Ibn Al Dhaal.
He performed in films and television programs such as Al Nazer, Enta Omri, Harb El Gawasis, Khaina Mashroaa, Leqaa al-hawa, Hoanem Garden City, Arabesque, Layaly Al Helmiya, El Rayaly El Beeeya, and others for over 50 years.
In May 2020, he advocated for LGBT+ rights on a televised broadcast in Egypt and said that he has a transgender son.
Hesham was the son of famed soccer player Saleh Selim. Saleh earned the moniker El Maestro for the way in which he led Al Ahly to success.
He ascended through the ranks to become the squad manager and a board member of the club. Considering his fame, there is little information available about Hesham’s career.

The popularity of Hesham Selim’s body of work has increased throughout the years. As news of his passing spread, Twitter was flooded with condolences. Hesham is survived by his wife, Nadia Al Ghaleb, and his three children from his first marriage to Mervat El Nahas.
