The trailer for Netflix’s The Exchange

The lengthy and detailed teaser for the upcoming six-part series explains everything the series intends to offer. The Middle East is notorious for its gender disparities. Netflix is getting ready to dive into Arabian Nights to show how two ladies in the 1980s chose to swim against the current.

The teaser also stated that the series is based on true events, implying that it is set in America. The trailer depicts how the males do not want to be involved in “their” world of business, which eventually leads to significant conflict between them and Farida and Munira after a lengthy introduction to women and the world of banking. Farida and Munira will be interesting characters with their own plots.

The plot of the show is as follows:

“Set in Kuwait in 1988, on the eve of Saddam Hussein’s invasion of the country, two women make their way into the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s boys club.”

The Exchange was founded by Nadia Ahmad, Anne Sobel, and Adam Sobel. Ahmad and producer Abdullah Boushahri revealed a lot about the project, including their vision for it, in an interview with Variety. Nadia Ahmad chose this topic based on her own financial background.

In the interview, Nadia Ahmad explained:

“In the 1970s and 1980s, investment banking was a big deal in Kuwait. There was plenty of money to go around, but not enough people to manage it, you know what I mean?… My single mother was entirely responsible for my financial well-being.

Ahmad continued, saying:

So she went into investment banking, and I was always surrounded by other women doing the same thing, breaking down stereotypes about Khaleeji [Arabic Peninsula] women. These women were pioneers, the first to enter male-dominated fields.”

Boushahri commented on the subject during the same interview, saying:

“Because it’s a workplace story, it’s difficult to make it funny. As a result, the topic appeared to be quite difficult at first. I was worried about joining a show that would only focus on offices and individuals, making it difficult for viewers to follow.”

On February 8, 2023, Netflix will release The Exchange. Stay tuned for more information.
