It is possible that PC Sharon Beshenivsky’s alleged killer won’t go to trial until 2024. On Monday, 74-year-old Piran Ditta Khan had a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey, and he appeared there through a video link.
He was charged with murder in connection with the 2005 killing of a 38-year-old man in Bradford after being deported from Pakistan.
A plea hearing is scheduled for July, but a trial lasting up to six weeks will not be able to take place at the Old Bailey until January 2024.
Crown court jurisdiction in West Yorkshire, where PC Sharon Beshenivsky passed away, will be decided at a later time.
When she was slain in Bradford on November 18th, 2005, PC Beshenivsky had only been on the force for nine months.
Mr. Khan is suspected of playing a major role in planning the armed robbery of Universal Travel on Morley Street, which resulted in the killing of PC Beshenivsky.
Officer PC Sharon Beshenivsky, who was the mother of three and the stepmother of two, was killed when she and another officer, PC Teresa Milburn, went to an alert at a tourist agency and were ambushed.
Milburn, a police officer, was also badly hurt but managed to live.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC heard Mr. Khan’s case while he was being incarcerated at the maximum security Belmarsh prison.
He simply confirmed his name and birthdate in a grey tracksuit and said very nothing.
In addition to robbery, two counts of firearm possession with intent to endanger life, and two counts of restricted weapon possession have been filed against Mr. Khan.
