The most difficult few months, according to Hossler, were probably when he broke up with his fiancée Nessa Barrett and experienced the death of his close buddy Cooper Noriega.

They also pleaded with their admirers to refrain from speculating about why they were splitting up, but this was impossible to resist.
Internet users asserted that Hossler had likely cheated on Barrett with Josie Canseco. Hossler did not respond to these assertions, but his friend Landon Barker made the possibility that it might have been true.

Travis Barker, who signed the former musician to his record label, DTA Records, also co-wrote and produced the album.
Hossler stated that he was an independent artist and believed that no one would be interested in signing him during an interview with Nylon.
However, other labels also made an offer after Barker expressed interest in collaborating with them, which he thought was a cool experience. Then he explained his decision to use the former Blink 182 drummer.
“It felt so natural after I met him. I was powerless to resist it. I met everyone first, and then I met with him, and there was such a big gap between the two that it almost felt like it would be harder to say no. Also, I felt so at home, the singer remarked.
