Tom Ford is still mourning the loss of his late husband, Richard Buckley, who died on September 19, 2021, at the age of 72, after a long illness.
In a December 2021 interview with the Wall Street Journal, the fashion designer and filmmaker, 60, stated that his life hasn’t been easy since the death of his longtime partner.
“It’s been very difficult after 35 years,” he told the publication. “I keep thinking, Oh my God, I need to call Richard or send him a note about this.” And he isn’t here.”

During the conversion, Ford remembered Buckley by mentioning that his husband had recently helped him out in the mornings.
On weekdays, Buckley, a fashion journalist, and editor, cooked breakfast for the couple’s son, Alexander John “Jack” Buckley Ford, while the fashion designer got ready for work.
Ford, on the other hand, is learning to do things on his own now that his partner has left.
“I guess I’ve added now to my routine at 5:30,” he said of caring for the couple’s son, whom they welcomed via gestational surrogate in 2012.
“But it’s a challenge to get him up, dressed, his lunch made, his lunch packed, his breakfast done, all my things done, and then I drive him to school at 7:45,” he continued. But it also means I’m at work by 8:10 a.m., giving me a good start to the day.”
Tom Ford and Richard Buckley fell in love at first sight.
Ford and Buckley began dating in 1986 after they first met in an elevator at a fashion show. The fashion designer was 25, and the former Vogue Hommes International editor-in-chief was 38.
It was also love at first sight. In a 2016 interview with People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle, he recalled the moment their eyes locked, saying that they knew they wanted to be with each other from the start.

They were already living together a month later, and they had been together for 35 years until Buckley died.
The couple eventually married in an intimate wedding ceremony in 2014. The wedding took place in the United States.

Ford, Buckley, and their son spent 17 years in Italy, where Ford relocated from New York in 1990, and London.
They also spent time at Ford’s other homes in New York, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and London.
Buckley died peacefully at the couple’s home in Los Angeles at night, according to a statement released by Ford’s representative, with Ford and their son Jack by his side.
The family of three had relocated to the Los Angeles home after Ford purchased the late socialite Betsy Bloomingdale’s estate in 2016.
