Tommy Young began his career as a wrestler for Ed Farhat in Michigan in 1971 and later as a referee for Pedro Martínez’s National Wrestling Federation. In 1975, he worked as a referee for the National Wrestling Alliance and Jim Crockett Promotions. By the 1980s, Young was Senior Referee for Jim Crockett Promotions and was the referee of most of the NWA Heavyweight World Championship games. On November 28, 1989, during a match between Mike Rotunda and Tommy Rich at the Wrestling TV World Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, Young suffered a career-ending injury. In 1998, Young appeared briefly in the World Wrestling Federation as part of the angle of invasion of the NWA.
