The Federalist Papers were written by Alexander Hamilton, a founding father, member of the Constitutional Convention, and the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.
Alexander Hamilton, who was raised in the British West Indies, eventually served as General George Washington’s assistant. He convinced New Yorkers to ratify the United States Constitution in 1788 as one of America’s founding fathers. Hamilton, a devoted Federalist, held the position of the country’s first secretary of the treasury from 1789 until 1795.
On January 11, 1755, or 1757, Hamilton was born on the British West Indian island of Nevis. (A precise date is unavailable). Hamilton’s parents were Scottish businessman James Hamilton and British and French Huguenot Rachel Fawcett Lavien.
