By giving the tram that struck and murdered Coronation Street villain Alan Bradley a new home, a museum is attempting to preserve a significant piece of television history.
27 million people watched the 1989 episode in which Bradley chased his patient partner Rita Fairclough into the path of the tram in Blackpool.
By the end of the year, Blackpool’s Tramtown Museum must fund £2,500 to save the tram. The money is required to transfer the Fleetwood tram.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust owns the double-decker, which is also known as tram number 710 and is presently situated in Fleetwood Docks.
But by the end of the year, it needs a new home.
Local councilman and Tramtown volunteer Paul Galley said: “This is a special chance to preserve a small piece of Blackpool’s history.
The most common query we receive from visitors to Tramtown is “Where is the tram that murdered Alan Bradley,” therefore we are confident that it will be well-attended.
“We know that not only can we save this unusual tram, but tram 710 can operate for Blackpool in a different way throughout the years, to become an attraction in its own right,” said Bryan Lindop, head of heritage for Blackpool Transport.
