By being the first NFL player with same-sex parents, McBride will go down in history. Trey’s parents, Kate and Jen, spoke with TODAY about their son’s long-held desire coming true:

When your child first confides in you that they want to be president, you tell them, “OK, honey, that’s terrific. He’s going to fulfill his desire to play in the NFL. The first same-sex couple to establish themselves in their traditional Colorado neighborhood was Kate and Jen.

Before beginning their over 25-year collaboration, Kate and Jen were friends first. Since Kate’s favorite number is eight, Jen didn’t protest when Kate announced she wanted eight children.

Where was Trey McBride born? Ethnicity, Nationality, Family

In the 1990s, when the couple began their family, same-sex relationships were still frowned upon. Kate’s parents thought she was single even though she was seeing Jen. At TODAY, Kate stated:

“They truly thought of me as a single mother. And when I told my parents I was expecting, they questioned why I would want to become a mother while still being a single woman. “I’m not a single woman,” I responded. I’m involved in a relationship.”

In December 2003, Jen and Kate moved into their house in Fort Morgan, Colorado. In the conservative neighborhood, where there had never been any openly gay couples before, the couple stood out like sore fingers.

Trey’s parents learned that the residents of Fort Morgan would band together against them and engage in physical violence. However, as Jen and Kate demonstrated their value as neighbors, the neighborhood welcomed them.

Jen and Kate have a history of giving their time to philanthropic organizations, such as the Meals on Wheels America Program, which works to end elder hunger and isolation. Townspeople frequently ask the couple about Trey’s football career advancement.

Jen works as a deputy sheriff in Morgan County, and Kate breeds white golden European retrievers. They value the neighborhood’s acceptance of their family and think they have had a good influence on the residents of Fort Morgan.

Jen told The Athletic, “It’s been a terrific environment to grow our kids.” Also, Kate said, “open people’s eyes.”

To channel their children’s limitless energy, Kate and Jen introduced them to wrestling. Jen and Kate settled for five children instead of the five Kate had hoped for Bryce, Toby, Trey, Dylan, and Taya.

Jen persuaded them to give it another shot after convincing Kate to almost give up on her goal of raising a daughter. Taya, the couple’s lone daughter, and youngest child, was born after the sixth attempt.

The parents of Trey found it challenging to raise four energetic sons. The majority of the damage from the boys’ domestic battles was dealt to the furniture, particularly the walls.

The Denver Post quoted Kate as saying,

The next thing I see is Dylan flying across the living room and planting perfect butt-print in the drywall.” Kate described a memorable altercation between Toby and Dylan.

We’ve done a lot of drywall replacement. To channel that enthusiasm into the sport, Trey’s parents enrolled the boys in wrestling.

Kate continued,We started them with wrestling so they would be exhausted and go to bed early.

We had no idea it would develop into a career.

The fact that the children of the marriage were talented athletes may be due to Kate coming from a sporting household. Although they chose sperm from tall donors, the couple did not “chemically engineer” their offspring to be outstanding athletes.

The McBrides had a falling out with several parents who were envious of the boys’ innate talents. Every youngster strives hard to succeed, according to Kate, who spoke to The Denver Post:

“There’s no way that one family could have all these amazing athletes, so we’ve been accused that we chemically developed them. Most of it is a result of their labor. Yes, there is some innate talent present. But these men put in a lot of labor. They worked long hours. Likewise, put in the tears and the sweat.

The children of Kate and Jen have used ancestry services to learn about their European ancestry and family in the Colorado region. None, though, has said they want to look for their biological father. Toby said to The Denver Post:

“Most of us have pretty much chosen not to look for our fathers. I just haven’t felt the motivation to go ask my dad who he is. I had my parents raise me. Nothing will change if I find out who my father is.

Trey thinks that growing up prepared him for success in football.

Trey McBride was raised outside of the norm and frequently received negative remarks from his peers. Even though things have changed and same-sex unions are now more widely accepted, Trey still receives “crap about it.”

He told The Denver Post, “I don’t know why. And occasionally, you have to defend yourself. You won’t allow someone to punch you because of something like that. It’s not a big deal.

Toby explained to the media source that he recognizes that the people hurting his family are ignorant of their actions. When he didn’t know any better, he would become indignant at the slight. But, he said, “that was years and years ago.” And right now, the neighborhood has welcomed us wholeheartedly as a family.

Trey’s parents’ connection is only one aspect of his family’s distinctiveness. The McBrides have a variety of pets, including twin goats, horses, llamas, and emus.

That’s my standard, Trey said,

“We’re just going to do our thing,” my parents seem to be saying. We won’t be concerned with what other people think of us. It just comes naturally to us.

Trey believes that his upbringing gave him the foundation for his football career. He told TODAY, “They’ve done a tremendous job pushing me to be the best version of myself and just always giving support and love.”When Kate informed Trey that he had received the Mackey Award, it was one of the highlights of his career to date.

Being informed by my mother that I received the largest honor in my career? It’s very nice to hear that from her, Trey said, according to The Athletic. “I believe it was a lot for me to hear that from her,” she said. The abuse that Trey McBride experiences have taught Trey’s parents to overlook it.

Kate and Jen were aware that their children would unavoidably face prejudice due to their parent’s sexual orientation. Everyone contributed to it, including coaches and teachers. By discussing these topics with the youngsters, they were able to deal with the hurtful remarks.

We would talk about it if kids had inquiries about certain topics, Kate remarked.”We informed them that their donor origins are a part of who they are.”

Trey’s football career has made him a household name and exposed him and his family to a wide range of internet hatred. Kate often responds to comments, but she often deletes them before pressing the send button because they anger her. Despite how angry they are, Kate and Jen have chosen to ignore the venom.

Trey McBride won’t see anything out of the ordinary in his childhood, despite the media making a big deal about it. He revealed to The Athletic:

“I think it’s extremely cool and special, but to be quite honest, it won’t mean anything to them. They did an excellent job of raising all of my siblings and me. I’m grateful to have them as parents since they are such wonderful role models. It just comes naturally to us.
