Richard Neale Hedeman was born on March 2, 1963, in El Paso, Texas. Pisces is his zodiac sign. As his career progressed, Tuff became his trademark. He began riding in high school and participated with the famed Sul Ross NIRA Championship Team in 1982 in team roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, and bronc riding. Hedeman worked as a professional bull rider from 1983 to 1998. For 11 years, he qualified for the NFR and won the NFR Average in 1987 and 1989.

He was also 1986, 1989, and 1991 World Champion Bull Rider. Along with his championships, Hedeman co-founded the Professional Bull Riders. He also served as the organization’s president from 1992 to 2004.

He served as president of the Championship Bull Riding Association from 2005 until 2011. Apart from that, he is well-known for his relationship with the recently deceased Lane Frost. They were the subject of the 1994 film 8 Seconds.

Tuff Hedeman- Professional Career

Tuff Hedeman’s career began in 1983 when he obtained his PRCA license as a bronc rider at a single rodeo. Hedemen quickly gained notoriety as a bull rider who also went out with close friends to save money. He went on to win three PRCA titles and was eventually inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

Following that, in 1995, despite an encounter with Bodacious, the American bull rider won the PBR World Championship. Hedemen then supported numerous shattered bones in his face.

Regrettably, he lost the PBR world title the next year and finished second. Again, luck was not on his side, as Tuff finished third in the 1997 PBR season. His final ride was in 1998 at the PBR Bud Light Cup Series in Odessa, Texas. Subsequently, he ceased to play with his health and resigned authoritatively in 1999.

Following his retirement, Tuff served as President of the PBR from 1992 to 2004, and since then, Ty Murray has served as President of the PBR. Nonetheless, he did not identify the particular reason for his departure from PBR. He remained with CBR as a diplomat for an extended period of time. He left CBR the previous year to create his own organization, The Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Tour.
