Chris and Michelle Okada, Ty’s parents, are Minnesota natives. The couple raised two athletic boys, one of whom is about to make his NFL debut.
Ty Okada, a 24-year-old Seattle Seahawks player, joined Montana State in 2017. The safety played six seasons at Montana and was selected Second Team All-Big Sky in his senior year. Okada was a multi-sport athlete in high school, competing in wrestling and baseball.
He was named district offensive player of the year as a quarterback and all-conference in the other two sports. Ty had some difficulty adjusting to Montana. But eventually, he discovered it. Okada went undrafted earlier this year but signed with the Seahawks. Ty’s sporting career has not been simple. After signing with the Seahawks, he was released in August but later re-signed to the practice squad. After overcoming numerous obstacles, the young talent has finally been elevated to the active roster.

Chris and Michelle Okada, Ty Okada’s parents, have always encouraged the Seahawks player to explore different sports. After all, his father was a top-performing athlete. Chris Okada, a Minnesota State University alumnus, studied business administration with a concentration in marketing and finance.
He succeeded both academically and as a swimmer. Chris played football at Minnesota, but after graduation, he decided to put his sports career on hold. In 1995, he began working as a loan officer. Chris worked as a loan officer for three years before becoming an area sales manager for Philip Morris International.
After five years in the same position, Chris felt it was time to launch his own business. He started Insight Mortgage Consultants and was President for the following five years before joining Wealth Enhancement Group in 2008. This was Chris’s first position with the organization.
Chris got a job offer from Wells Fargo in 2010. He began as the company’s Loan Servicing Supervisor and was promoted to Loan Administration Manager after two years. Chris rejoined Wealth Enhancement Group in 2015 and was promoted to Vice President in 2020.
Despite his rapid advancement in the business world, Chris never lost sight of his enthusiasm for athletics. He allegedly coaches a high school boys’ lacrosse team and has previously coached Ty’s football teams. Michelle Okada, Ty’s mother, graduated from Concordia University.
She went on to earn a master’s degree in public administration from Hamline University in 2008. Michelle has worked with the City of Woodbury since 1996. She has been Parks and Recreation Director since 2018. Michelle and Chris, a husband and wife team, have a moderately active combined Facebook account. They also have their own Instagram handles, which they keep private.

The NFL athlete’s surname has confused fans. The surname “Okada” has Japanese origins, however, Ty has never confirmed whether his family has any Japanese ancestry. He was born and raised in Woodbury, Minnesota, and graduated from East Ridge High School. He eventually attended Montana State University and played football for six seasons.
Ty wrestled before concentrating on football in college. His older brother, MJ Okada, was also a wrestler who eventually gave up athletics. MJ completed his aeronautics degree at the University of North Dakota in 2019. Following graduation, MJ became the UND Aerospace Foundation’s primary flying instructor.
In 2021, he joined SkyWest Airlines and worked as an airline pilot for a year. In 2022, he was promoted to pilot recruiter. He joined United Airlines earlier this year and currently serves as First Officer.
