Alex Smith had surgery after suffering a horrific injury to his right leg. The retired American football player spent 16 seasons as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL).
He was chosen first overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2005 NFL Draft as a result of his achievements in college.
Alex played collegiate football for Utah, winning the 2005 Fiesta Bowl and earning first-team All-American recognition.
Throughout his career, he made 167 starts, and his teams won 99.67.1 of those games. He completed 35,650 passes for 109 picks and 199 touchdowns.

After suffering a complex fracture in the fibula and tibia of his right leg, Alex Smith needed as many as 17 operations. Sepsis as a result of an infection exacerbated the already horrific injuries.
Alex and his wife, Liz, deliberated for a long time before deciding against amputating his limb. His right leg was rescued after almost being amputated.
Additionally, he had to use a wheelchair for months, a walker for a while, then crutches, and finally an external fixator for more than eight months.
Infection and surgery problems kept Alex at the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia for four weeks. Later, in late December 2018, he was released.
The quarterback has joined ESPN as an NFL analyst after leaving playing in April 2021. A number of ESPN programs, including Monday Night Countdown, SportsCenter, and Sunday NFL Countdown, will feature the player who finished his 16-season career.
Alex also contributed to ESPN’s coverage of the Super Bowl and the NFL Draft in 2022.

Throughout his career, Alex Smith struggled with consistency and injury.
Alex, who had elevated the 49ers in 2011 but suffered a concussion the following season, lost his starting job to Colin Kaepernick.
He nearly had his right leg amputated after suffering a life-threatening injury to it during his first season with Washington in 2018.
Medical professionals had said he would never play again, but after a protracted recuperation period, he began playing again in 2020.
Midway through the season, he was named Washington’s starting quarterback. He guided the club to a division title and was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year. It has been said that this was one of the finest injury recoveries in NFL history.
After the Washingtons dismissed him, Alex announced his retirement in the offseason of 2021.

Alexander Douglas Smith was born to Douglas D. Smith and Pam Smith in Bremerton, Washington, in the United States.
Douglas D. Smith, his father, was a football coach at Olympic High School and an executive director at Helix High School.
Two sisters, Mackenzie and Abbey Smith, and a brother, Josh Smith, make up Alex’s family. Together, they went to school in La Mesa, California.
The quarterback is an American citizen of European ancestry; one of his great-grandfathers was an immigrant from Austria with Serbian ancestry who moved to America from the Austro-Hungarian Empire when he was 12 years old.
To honor him, Alex, his brother, and his father all get tattoos of the traditional Serbian cross made up of four firesteels.
In 2009, Alex Smith wed Elizabeth Barry, a former cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders. Hudson, Hayes, and Sloan Smith are the names of the couple’s two boys and one daughter.
The entire Alex family is very active in sports. Along with his father, Chris Shelton, his cousin, and John L. Smith, a former collegiate football head coach, are all family members of the boy.
