Veronica is currently married to Preston Rudie, the founder, and CEO of Catalyst Communications Group, her longtime boyfriend. Between 2002 and 2014, he worked as a reporter for WTSP TV, and before that, for WITI –TV Fox 6. Preston received multiple prizes as a reporter, including 23 Emmys, six Edward R. Murrow awards, and the Individual Achievement Award, among others. Rudie graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies.
Preston admitted that it was difficult to be married to a fellow reporter when their schedules clashed when he was also a reporter. He would work throughout the day while his wife worked at night which meant that they only had time for each other during the weekend.
The couple has been blessed with a baby girl, who was born on April 6, 2017 – Veronica, who is very proud of her daughter, enjoys uploading images of her on social media. Veronica enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, reading, going to the beach, and watching movies at home with her spouse when she is not working. She also enjoys spoiling her Shih Tzu dog, Gizmo.
Veronica Cintron- Professional Career
Veronica’s first job required her to relocate to Massachusetts, where she worked as the primary female NBC affiliate anchor. She considers her first job to be a huge test for her because it provided her with not only the necessary experience but also exposure. She worked for NBC for four and a half years before returning to Tampa when her contract expired, inspired in part by the fact that her boyfriend lived there and she wanted to be with him.
Veronica had been offered an internship by Channel 10 when she was still in college, where she met a number of reporters. She envied and befriended these reporters, but she took the next step with one of them, and the two ended updating. So, when her contract in Massachusetts expired, she simply wanted to be close to her lover, who ultimately became her husband.
Veronica began working for Bay News 9 in 2010. She begins her day at 2:30 p.m. and sometimes has to work until 4 a.m. recording stories and attending management meetings. When she isn’t doing either of these two things, you can find her writing a piece called “Medical Beat,” for which she always does research and comes up with medical stories.
Because the station is not always on, Veronica must write a number of these stories. She claims that each day is the same as the previous one since some nights are highly busy while others are rather quiet; this is what makes her job so enjoyable.
When asked for advice for budding journalists, Veronica suggests that they pursue a number of internships and become associated with groups that host networking events. She also encourages them to persevere, stating that being an anchor is a difficult profession that requires a competitive edge.
Veronica has traveled as a reporter to Panama, Washington, D.C., Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Holland. Some of her best work includes coverage of the Panama Canal’s 100th anniversary, Pope Francis’ spectacular Cuban visit, and Hurricane Maria’s aftermath in Puerto Rico, just days after the Category 4 hurricane hit. She also covered President Barack Obama’s inauguration and the election of Massachusetts’ first African-American governor.
Veronica has received numerous honors since joining Bay News 9, including Suncoast’s Best Anchor Emmy and the Florida Society of Professional Journalists’ Anchor of the Year. Throughout her career as a reporter, she has also garnered a number of Emmys and Associated Press awards.
