According to Santos, his maternal grandparents were Ukrainian Jews who emigrated to Belgium and Brazil during WWII. His Belgian-born ancestors fled Europe during the war, according to archives from his Campaign website from earlier in 2022. Santos also claimed that his father was of Angolan ancestry.
