Wayne Millner was born in Massachusetts on January 31, 1913. Pro Football Hall of Fame end for the Washington Redskins had a reputation for showing up for the big games. He played on the Redskins alongside another future Hall of Famer, the quarterback Sammy Baugh, and was one of Baugh’s favorite deep targets. He was a member of the unbeaten Notre Dame football team that faced off in 1935 in a memorable game against equally perfect Ohio State.

Career

Millner was drawn up in the 8th round of the 1936 NFL Draft by the Boston Redskins, with head coach Ray Flaherty seeing him as a major player in winning a league championship. After losing to the Green Bay Packers in the title game that year, the franchise moved to Washington, D.C. in 1937 and defeated the Chicago Bears 28-21 to win the title. Millner played a big part in the victory, catching Sammy Baugh’s 55-and 78-yard touchdown passes.
Millner entered the U.S. Navy during the Second World War and returned to the Redskins for a final season in 1945 before he retired after three years. During his seven seasons, he caught 124 passes for 1,578 yards, an average of 12.7 yards and 12 yards.
