Brett Favre’s motion to dismiss the civil litigation he is involved in was denied by a judge in Mississippi. The former NFL quarterback will continue to be named as a defendant in the lawsuit concerning state welfare funds.
According to state prosecutors, approximately $77 million in federal welfare funds intended for low-income Mississippians were spent in recent years on various initiatives supported by “wealthy or well-connected people.”
Favre is among the three-dozen individuals and organizations that the Mississippi Department of Human Services has sued for allegedly misusing welfare funds.
There are rumors that the former NFL quarterback spent $5 million on a volleyball facility at his alma mater, Southern Miss, where his daughter also played volleyball.
BRETT FAVRE allegedly used welfare funds to promote the development of a concussion treatment drug costing $1.7 million. He is not being prosecuted for a crime.
Attorneys for the former quarterback argued that the state health department is suing Favre, “a Mississippi and national celebrity,” in order to deflect attention from its own role in facilitating fraud. Favre’s counsel presented “unpersuasive and inapplicable” arguments, according to Circuit Judge Faye Patterson.
In February, BRETT FAVRE filed a defamation suit against former NFL punter and media sensation Pat McAfee. Recently, McAfee submitted a motion to dismiss the defamation suit.
