Jude Walton, former police oversight commissioner, and Avalon Housing’s employee experience director, passed away. When police arrived at the Ann Arbor native’s home to check on her welfare, they discovered her body.
She passed away when she was 51 years old. Her death is being investigated as a homicide at this time. At 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to Jude Walton’s Chapin Street home after her employer reported that she had not arrived for work. It was discovered that she was last seen by a neighbor at 8 p.m. the night before.

Aimee Metzer, Ann Arbor’s interim police chief, stated in a news release that there were “obvious signs that this was a homicide.” According to police, the suspect entered the house through a back window. According to Metzer:
“The majority of the house appeared normal, with no obvious signs of a large number of items being taken or damaged.”
Walton has been dubbed a “pillar in the community” for her charitable efforts and assistance to the homeless. The official cause of death had not been disclosed at the time of writing. A police official stated that there were “obvious signs of trauma on her body.” An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Over two decades ago, Jude Walton moved to Ann Arbor from London. She grew up in north London, just above her parents’ bar, according to M Live. According to her LinkedIn, she earned a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Cambridge. In 1993, she co-founded Zingerman’s Mail Order. After leaving the firm, she was reportedly given a 30% lifetime discount. She was also a commissioner on the Independent Community Police Oversight Commission. Former coworker Lisa Jackson said of Walton:
“She was able to cut through some of the fluff and get right to the heart of what we wanted to accomplish… People thought she was wise, and they respected her for it. She didn’t say much, but she was someone we all noticed.”
In December 2008, she began working for Avalon Housing. Her LinkedIn page states that she was named Director of Human Resources and Administration. She’d been with the Ann Arbor group for 14 years. On its official Facebook page, the non-profit paid tribute to its former employee. On the internet, they wrote about her character:
“Jude was a wonderful person who was thoughtful, kind, funny, talented, brilliant, humble, and insightful.” When things got tough at work, we all turned to her. It’s difficult to imagine Avalon without her. We are in deep sorrow over this unfathomable loss.”
Jude Walton has a passion for photography and used to be an amateur photographer in her spare time. At the time of writing, no arrests had been made in connection with the death of Jude Walton.
