What Did Advocate “Fulcrum” Thabani Mpofu Do Get Arrested?

He was arrested on June 1, 2020, and charged with obstructing or impairing the administration of justice.

“The Z.R.P. confirmed the arrest of Advocate Thabani Mpofu for violating Section 184 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:233 undermining or obstructing the course of justice,” stated Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Between January 2019 and February 7, 2019, he was charged with two counts of the same offense with three other individuals who have not yet been located. Mpofu attended the hearing.

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa was defended in court by attorney Thabani Mpofu. According to his counsel Beatrice Mtetwa, that was about impeding or undermining the administration of justice.

He was summoned by the Police Anti-Corruption Unit at the Morris Depot, according to the Zim Morning Post, and was then detained in connection with a constitutional matter he was handling over the appointment of the Prosecutor General.

On a $20,000 bond, Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi released the Thabani Mpofu hearing.

The Bio of Thabani Mpofu is Examined

On April 13, 1982, Thabani Mpofu was born in Ingezi Kadoma. Before enrolling at the Great Zimbabwe University (G.Z.U. ), where he obtained a law degree, he completed his studies at Kadoma.

He enrolled in the University of Zimbabwe after the university closed, where he quickly made a name for himself as a champion for the rights of former G.Z.U. students.

After the incident, he rapidly became involved in a dispute with the authorities, which led to the student’s acceptance and recognition.

The battle’s climax was the court case he brought against the University; it was dismissed, but it demonstrated to the authorities that a fresh approach to activism was possible.

He sued the University and the Government in his second year after the latter chose to require him to pay school fees. He prevailed in the dispute and the leadership of the students who opposed the new policy and his lawsuit in the public Campaign efforts.

It is improbable that the urgent litigation will ever be concluded. It did, however, support Thabani’s standing as a young justice activist.

Thabani won the ICRC national moot court competition, earning the opportunity to compete in the ICRC African moot court competition. Thabani had established himself as a top student throughout his last year of studies at the U.Z.

He not only won the regional competition, but he also distinguished himself as the best speaker in the finals, gaining him the privilege to work in the UN-ICTR office of the trial prosecutor and take part in Ephrem Setako’s trial.

He started at the I.C.T.R. as an intern but quickly moved up to the post of Legal Researcher.

Investigating Thabani Mpofu’s Legal Career

Thabani has worked with several law companies, including Mafirakurewa and Associates, J. Musimbe and Associates, Munangati and Associates, Muza and Nyapadi, and the Advocate’s chambers in Harare (Z.I.S.E.G.U. ), in addition to advising for the Zimbabwe Security Guards Union.

Additionally, he has held leadership positions in several local and international civic and political groups.

Thabani was inspired to start a human rights trust by his historical contacts, which included, among other things, being a small kid witness to the genocide in Zimbabwe, the fights against the G.Z.U., and the political situation in Zimbabwe when the MDC was formed.

He created the THABANI MPOFU CENTER FOR JUSTICE as a settlement and donated the resources he had amassed while earning a job as a student to it.

Additionally, he gave the trust his knowledge, and the trust quickly profited from his extensive I.C.T.R. experience.
