Aftab Pureval, the mayor of Cincinnati, posted a video on Twitter insulting Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes prior of the Chiefs’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Pureval, a lifetime Bengals supporter, stated that Cincinnati’s Joseph Lee Burrow, who is 3-0 versus Patrick Mahomes, has been asked to take a paternity test to validate his paternity.
Although the comment was made as a jest to promote the match between the Bengals and the Chiefs, the joke was not taken lightly.
Many supporters expressed their displeasure with the mayor’s statement on social media and in television interviews.
Not just fans, but also members of the media, voiced their honest sentiments in response to the mayor’s statement.

Aftab Purewal, Mayor of Cincinnati, Apologizes For His Remark
Following a significant outcry, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Purewal apologized on social media for his remarks against Patrick Mahomes.
He apologized on Twitter, saying that his competitive nature and love for Cincinnati got the best of him.
He closed the apology on a high note, cheering on the Bengals and promising to see the Chiefs on Sunday.
Purewal was, understandably, a Bengals supporter insulting the Chiefs’ player. He did, however, cross the narrow line between banter and outrage.
Nonetheless, because the mayor of Cincinnati has already apologized and the game has already begun, the controversy appears to be over.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals met in the NFL Conference Championships on January 29, 2023.
The Chiefs defeated the Bengals 23-20 in an exciting game highlighted by a brilliant performance by Patrick Mahomes, much to the chagrin of the mayor of Cincinnati.
The Chiefs will now face the Philadelphia Eagles, the NFC champions, in Super Bowl LVII on February 13, 2023.

Aftab Purewal’s Family History
Aftab is one of two sons born to his parents, Devinder Singh Pureval and Drenko, along with his brother Avid.
When he was four years old, his family relocated from Xenia to Beavercreek. Aftab has always been interested in politics.
He attended Beavercreek High School, where he ran for student government in eighth grade with the motto “Big, Brown, and Beautiful.”
As a senior, Pureval ran for class president and won against anti-immigrant opponents who used the slogan “Vote for the American candidate.”
The mayor of Cincinnati is married to Whitney Whitis. On April 13, 2017, the pair got engaged, and on May 26, 2018, they married.
The Purevals have two kids, Bodhi (born in 2019) and Rami (born in 2022).
Whitis, an alumnus of Ohio State University, works as a hospitalist at Bethesda North.
