Singer Robin Thicke has been accused of sexually abusing actress Emily Ratajkowski while they were filming the contentious 2013 smash song Blurred Lines.
The American supermodel, 30, alleges that Thicke touched her naked breasts from behind while filming the song’s music video. She appeared in it alongside two other half-naked models, American-Canadian Thicke who was wearing clothing, Pharrell Williams, and rapper TI.
The song’s lyrics and accompanying video, in which 44-year-old singer Thicke repeatedly sings “I know you want it,” have been accused of encouraging rape culture. As a result, the song has been banned from certain nightclubs and college campuses.
What did Emily Ratajkowski have to say regarding Robin Thicke?
Ratajkowski claimed that Thicke’s actions caused her to feel nude for the first time that day, but she was frantically trying to downplay the situation.
She said that with the fire of embarrassment flowing through her veins, she tilted her chin forward and shrugged while avoiding eye contact.
The director of the video Diane Martel claimed to have seen the event and yelled at Thicke, criticizing his actions. She recalled him approaching her from behind and squeezing her breasts while they were both in profile, according to The Times.
Both Ratajkowski and Martel assert that Thicke was drunk when the incident occurred.
According to Martel, Thicke shyly apologized for his actions and commended Ratajkowski’s professionalism as the session went on.
The video’s maker said that she wanted to invert power dynamics by having the ladies ignore and make fun of the males while the other way around.
Ratajkowski claims that Thicke’s actions disprove any notion of female empowerment. On the shoot, Robin Thicke allegedly reminded everyone that the ladies were not in command.
