A renowned comedian and television personality, Michael Barrymore is well-known for hosting quiz shows and light-hearted series on British television in the 1990s.
His hosting credits include My Kind of People, My Kind of Music, Kids Say the Funniest Things, Strike It Lucky, and Barrymore.
Once, he was one of the most renowned entertainers in the United Kingdom. Barrymore was one of the highest-paid television performers from the middle of the 1980s to the late 1990s.
During his prime, he was repeatedly voted the most popular British television icon. The veteran television host was recently thrust into the media spotlight following a tumultuous incident during his appearance on This Morning.
Michael Barrymore turned what was intended to be a promotional interview for his new play into his own pandemonium.
The nineties television personality, who is embroiled in a scandal involving the death of a man in his pool, appeared on This Morning on Thursday (3 August) and astonished viewers with his bizarre behavior.
His speech was slurred, he interrupted the presenters, and he made comments about his legal troubles. In addition, he claimed ignorance of the presenters’ identities, Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.
During a turbulent appearance, when Michael made a hilarious outburst and threatened to halt the performance, the two had their hands full.
Since Phillip Schofield, Holly Willoughby’s longtime co-star, was dismissed earlier this year, they have been filling in for her while she is abroad for the summer.
Josie and Craig were forced to transition to a commercial break due to laughter. Michael remarked,
“I assumed it was Alison and the other person; who are you two?!”
“Who exactly are they?” I know all of the cameramen’s identities, but I don’t recognize you two,” Barrymore continued.
Michael then imitated Craig’s Irish dialect, prompting Josie to exclaim, “It’s my turn now!”
After the break, Michael Barrymore was more composed, but he insisted he had never met Craig. He added that the sole intent of his humorous outbursts was to entertain the audience.
More on the Michael Barrymore Controversy
Michael’s theatrics shocked observers, who reacted angrily on Twitter, with one user tweeting,
“This is excruciating. Why does Barrymore regard Craig, Josie, and the program as a whole with such contempt?”
Others stated,
“I hope Josie and Craig receive a bonus for their trouble.”
Many other audiences expressed their astonishment and dismay at Barrymore’s interview via social media, labeling it a “car crash,” a “disgrace,” and a “disaster.”
Some believed he was intoxicated or on drugs, while others felt terrible for him and hoped he would receive assistance.
Michael Barrymore did not respond to the criticism, but he did post a video on TikTok thanking This Morning for having him and showing him conversing with production staff and other guests.
He stated that he had a “wonderful time” and was looking forward to his upcoming performance. He also encouraged his followers to “be kind” and “stay positive.”
As stated previously, Michael was one of the most popular British TV presenters from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
In 2001, after the tragic drowning death of Stuart Lubbock, 31, in the swimming pool of the celebrity’s residence in Essex, he was dismissed from ITV.
