On the tennis courts at Yale University, the American, who is still showing promise when healthy, defeated fellow countryman Marcos Giron in the final to claim the first Oracle Challenger Series victory in New Haven.
Paul, 22, and Giron, 26, as well as his fellow Americans Michael Mmoh, 21, and Noah Rubin, 23, have both struggled with injuries.
Dealing with them has been an essential step in their ascent back up the rankings and effort to join contemporaries Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Reilly Opelka as dependable Top-60-level players.
Junior Tommy Paul Career
Tommy Paul often earned top junior rankings in his class. Paul reached a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 3 on December 9, 2015.
Paul made it to two junior Grand Slam finals in 2015. In the boys’ singles final of the French Open, he beat fellow American Taylor Fritz in three sets.
He and fellow American William Blumberg made it to the doubles final in the same competition.
