Mel Gibson was detained for DUI (driving under the influence) on July 28th, 2006, by Sheriff’s Deputy James Mee of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
According to accounts, the Oscar-winning actor informed the police officer that Robyn would leave him and that his life was finished. Mel apparently lost his cool and started yelling when the police officer refused to allow him drive home.
Mel Gibson reportedly told the officer during his arrest: “F-ing Jews… the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” “Are you a Jew?” he asked the police.
The actor apologized twice after the incident was reported by TMZ via his spokesperson.
In a live televised interview with Diane Sawyer, the native New Yorker attested to the veracity of the claims.
He also expressed sorry for his “despicable” deeds and expressed regret for the remarks he had “blurted out in a moment of insanity.”
A meeting with Jewish authorities was also sought by the director so they could assist him in “discovering the right pathway for healing.”
According to Mel’s spokeswoman, he signed up for a program to treat his alcoholism after his incarceration.
Domestic abuse committed by Mel Gibson against Oksana Grigorieva
The director of Hacksaw Ridge separated from his wife of thirty years in 2009 and began dating young model Oksana Grigorieva. In October of the same year, the model became pregnant.
The actor’s ex-girlfriend alleged that he struck her in January 2010 and damaged her teeth. He eventually confessed to misdemeanor assault.
Gibson was the focus of a domestic violence investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department when Oksana stopped filming after six months.
However, the case was ultimately dismissed when Gibson filed a not guilty plea to a charge of petty violence.
Because of his divisive remarks, the director spent nearly 10 years on the Hollywood blacklist.
The actresses Allison Hope Weiner and Robert Downey Jr. lobbied for Gibson’s pardon in 2014.
Since Gibson’s 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge was such a commercial success, companies were eager to collaborate with him once again.
