Adam grew up in Granada Hills, California as the oldest child in the family. During his childhood he was active in various sports, including football, baseball, skateboarding, bicycle riding and swimming, but also showed great interest in drawing and arts. He studied acting at Chatsworth High School, and was a student of drama teacher Bob Carelli who also taught Val Kilmer, Kevin Spacey and Mare Winningham. When he was eight years old, Rich landed the role of Nicholas in “Eight Is Enough”, which became extremely popular and took him to stardom. While on the show, he was recognized by his specific haircut which then led to parents across the country styling their children’s hair the same way. He was an adored child actor, earning “America’s little brother” nickname. The show was the base of his net worth.

However, growing up as a child actor, Rich had a difficult adolescence, tried smoking marihuana when he was fourteen and left high school at the age of sixteen. Fortunately this didn’t stop his acting career, and he continued appearing in various television and film productions. After starring in the 1977 television film “The City”, his next ventures were in Irwin Allen’s TV series “Code Red”(1981) on ABC, and the “Gun Shy” (1983) sitcom on CBS.

He then made guest appearances in episodes of several television series, including “The Love Boat”, “CHiPs”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “Fantasy Island”, “St. Elsewhere”, “Silver Spoons” and “Baywatch”. In 1979, Adam voiced the character of Tukiki in “Tukiki and His Search for a Merry Christmas” television special, then starred as Toby Hart in the 1981 feature film “The Devil and Max Devlin”, and voiced the character of Presto, the Magician in “Dungeons & Dragons” from 1983 to 1985. He reprised his character of Nicholas Bradford in television films “Eight is Enough: A Family Reunion” in 1987, and again two years later in “An Eight Is Enough Wedding” (1989). His net worth rose steadily.

The lifestyle he led affected Rich greatly, as he struggled with drug addiction, and almost died of a Valium overdose in 1989. This led to him being arrested and convicted for attempted burglary of a pharmacy in 1991. Subsequently the nineties weren’t a fruitful period in Adam’s career, as he didn’t have any significant projects except a few guest appearances. After a decade long pause, he had a cameo role in the “Dickie Robers: Former Child Star” feature film (2003), appearing as himself. When it comes to his more recent activity, Adam has occasionally been appearing in various productions, and marketing script ideas for TV shows and films.

Privately, Rich has never married, nor are there any available data on his relationships. He was listed as no.73 on VH1’s “The Greatest: 100 Greatest Kid Stars” in 2005. He has stated that although his greatest passion is acting, he hasn’t fully pursued it in adulthood, because he dislikes the life of celebrities.
