Mara Wilson was raised in a large family with her four siblings. Her mother, Suzie was a homemaker, and father, Mike worked as a broadcast engineer in television. Mara’s acting career began at five years of age, when she followed her brother into taking part in various commercials, something her parents were initially unsure about.

She debuted on the big screen in the film “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993) directed by Chris Columbus. Even though the film received mixed reviews from critics, it was popular among cinema goers, and grossed $441 million the box office while the budget was $25 million. A year later she starred in “Miracle on 34th Street” (1994) directed by Les Mayfield, and “A Time to Heal” (1994) directed by Michael Toshiyuki Uno.

In 1995, Mara Wilson won the ShoWest Award as the Young Star of the Year. Her acting was just incredible, as she was convincing, sincere and all the experts agreed that the girl was a very promising future actress. Of course, these parts gave a significant boost to Mara Wilson’s net worth.

In 1996, Mara Wilson’s acting attracted the attention of critics for her role of Matilda in the film “Matilda” directed by Danny DeVito and she received nominations for Saturn Award for the Best Performance by a Younger Actor and Young Artist Award for the Best Performance in a Feature Film. More, she won a Young Star Award for the Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Comedy Film.

Unfortunately, Mara’s mother passed away from breast cancer at the time “Matilda” was being filmed. Afterwards, Mara created several successful characters such as Anabel Greening in the film “A Simple Wish” (1997) directed by Michael Ritchie and “Thomas and the Magic Railroad” (2000) directed by Britt Allcroft which brought her nominations for Saturn and Young Artist Awards. In 2000, she quit acting to focus on her studies, although during a later interview she explained that the acting did not usually allow much self-expression.
