“As I sit here in this beautiful area of Vermont with my lovely daughter Kate Lear LaPook, who is carrying this incredibly intelligent tiny smartphone camera that is photographing me. And my God, what a miracle it is to be alive in this day and age and to be 100 the following day. Are you hearing me correctly? Tomorrow I’ll turn 100 years old. That strikes me as being as credible as, “Today I’m 99.”

He continued, saying:

“I’ve been considering breakfast, and I suppose my current breakfast concept is the present. Regardless of when you all see it, that will be the time you see it since now is the moment I say it. Some people are seeing me now months after I say it, while others will probably see it years from now.

Living in the moment, according to Lear, is straddling the present and the past as well as the present and the future.
