Richard Fuld graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder and received his M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1973. He participated in Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and became an Air Force pilot. In 1969 Fuld started at Lehman Brothers as a commercial trader. He became CEO of Lehman Brothers in 1994 and held the position until the company filed for bankruptcy in 2008. The same year he transferred his Florida mansion which he bought for over $13 million to his wife for $100 to protect it from legal action.

He joined the hedge fund Matrix Advisors in 2009. In 2010 he joined Legend Securities but left in 2012. In 2006 Fund was the #1 CEO in the Brokers & Asset Managers according to Institutional Investor magazine. He received a $22 million bonus in 2006.
