John Barnes, a former England international who recently took a post as a Liverpool ambassador, may be on the verge of filing for bankruptcy after a petition for him was made public.
After making an amazing 296 appearances and scoring 85 goals, Barnes transferred to Liverpool in 1987 for a sizable transfer price.
Barnes became a cult icon at Anfield very fast because of his performances on the left wing. The striker, who was born in Jamaica, played with the Reds for eleven years, scoring 106 goals in 403 appearances.
In the North-West, he also captured two First Division titles and two FA Cups.
Barnes played his final few seasons with Newcastle before transferring to Charlton Athletic. Throughout his international career, Barnes gained 79 caps for England. He is most remembered for his rapping contribution to New Order’s No. 1 hit, “World in Motion.”

During a brief hearing on Monday at the High Court in London, Barnes’ impending bankruptcy was confirmed; the former England winger was not present.
