Elon Musk first studied at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, before moving on to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in both economics and physics in 1997.

He enrolled in Stanford University’s PhD program in physics but left after a few days to concentrate on his business. Elon Musk cofounded PayPal and established SpaceX, a company that makes rockets and spacecraft, in 2002. He invested in Tesla early on and became its CEO in 2008. Tesla produces electric vehicles and batteries. He also helped start the neurotechnology company Neuralink in 2016. Musk bought the social media platform Twitter in 2022.

He is also the founder of the Boring Company and the chief executive officer of SpaceX. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes, he had a net worth of $249 billion and $226 billion, respectively, as of September 2023. This is mostly because of his owning stakes in Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and briefly attended the University of Pretoria before moving to Canada when he was 18 years old and obtaining Canadian citizenship through his mother, who was born in Canada. Two years later, he applied to Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Early Life

Musk was raised in a wealthy family. His father, a member of the anti-apartheid Progressive Party, was elected to the Pretoria City Council, and his children adopted their father’s anti-apartheid beliefs. His maternal grandfather, Joshua Haldeman, was a Canadian-born American who piloted his family on record-breaking journeys to Australia and Africa in a Bellanca airplane.

After his parents separated in 1980, Musk made the decision to spend most of his time with his father. In the end, Musk came to regret his conduct and had a strained relationship with his father. On his father’s side, he has a half-sister and a half-brother.
