Brittney Poolaw is a Comanche Nation member, according to the Comanche County Detention Center. On October 6, a jury gave her a four-year state prison term. Poolaw’s legal representative filed a notice of intent to appeal on October 15.

The trial lasted for one day. According to a local news station, a prosecution expert witness allegedly informed the court that methamphetamine use could not have been the only factor in Poolaw’s fetus’s demise.
Nevertheless, a jury found her guilty and sentenced her to four years in jail after less than three hours of deliberation.
According to the detective’s affidavit, Poolaw’s entire predicament may have been preventable if she had had access to appropriate reproductive healthcare.
The investigator stated in his report that Poolaw claimed she wasn’t sure if she wanted the kid when she found out she was pregnant. She insisted that she didn’t know how or where to get an abortion.
