Japanese-American country music fiddler and singer Shoji Tabuchi was a student in college in the mid-1960s when he found out Roy Acuff was visiting Osaka, Japan. Tabuchi performed at his theater in Branson, Missouri.
Tabuchi also went to his show and had a backstage meeting with Acuff. Acuff’s songs inspired Tabuchi to pursue bluegrass and country music. While in college, Tabuchi started a band called The Bluegrass Ramblers, which went on to win a national competition in Japan. Choosing to take a plane to the US with just $500 and his violin was his decision.

Dorothy Tabuchi, the second wife of Shoji Tabuchi, was content with her family’s Kansas City home when Tabuchi started doing performances at the nearby Riverside Starlite Club. One of his offspring is Shoji John Tabuchi, a son from his first marriage. His two stepchildren, Christina Lingo Tabuchi and Thomas Jason Lingo-Tabuchi, are from his second marriage.
To support the center and the NEED Foundation, Tabuchi, his wife Dorothy, Christina, and several musicians, dancers, and singers will put on two events. Tabuchi lives in Oak Grove with his wife and daughter.
