On 5 January 2023, Zander Lyda’s older sibling stabbed him to death. Police in Tulsa have not disclosed the identity of the 12-year-old girl.
In the same month, police released the juvenile’s photograph taken in a Tulsa, Oklahoma detention. In Tulsa, Zander Lyda’s sister is currently receiving treatment in a juvenile facility.
Zander and his older sister shared an apartment in the St. Thomas Square neighborhood of downtown Tulsa. Zander’s older sister is a middle schooler.”
The Tulsa District Attorney’s Office has not disclosed any information about the case, including the middle schooler’s charges.
Why Did Zander Lyda Sister Stabbed Him?
His sister has stated that she does not know why she attacked Zander Lyda. According to the parents of Lyda’s siblings, she roused them up just before midnight and informed them that she had stabbed her younger brother.
The shocked parents promptly reported the incident to authorities. Police released footage from body cameras.
The video depicts the girl sprinting out the door to meet them and immediately apologizing. The young girl cries and screams, “I’m so sorry!” Sincerely apologetic. Sincerely apologetic.”
While apologizing, she confessed repeatedly stabbing her nine-year-old brother with a knife while he slept. She even offered to show the officers where the knife landed.
As the officer handcuffed her and led her to the patrol vehicle, she asked one of the officers whether the handcuffs were necessary, explaining that she was a good child. Given the nature of the incident, the police responded, “Yes, it is.”
In the police car, the girl reportedly kept saying she was going to jail and inquiring if she was going to jail. In addition, she conveyed concern that she had ruined her future.

April Lyda is the mother of a 12-year-old daughter and Zander Lyda. What her daughter did must have stunned the mother of two.
The grieving mother stated that her daughter had never exhibited behavioral issues before she began taking a medication she had been off for over a year. But April had no reason to suspect that her daughter posed a threat.
She did not specify the girl’s medication, only that it was not psychiatric medication.
Police questioned April Lyda shortly after the tragic incident. The mother of two stated that she did not understand why her daughter was so angry with Zander, especially at nighttime.
April stated, in a devastating portion of the interview, that her deceased son would never forgive his sister. “There will always be issues between them,” the distraught mother concluded.
April revealed that her daughter initiated self-mutilation. In addition, April’s friends have created a GoFundMe page to assist her to relocate following the death of her son.
The devastated mother described her daughter as a “normal” adolescent who never “yelled” at her until she resumed taking unidentified medications.
April stated that her daughter never exhibited behavioral issues in the past.
