“White House Christmas” Is Set To Be Released On HGTV

White House Christmas

The People’s House will be featured in all its seasonal splendor on HGTV’s annual holiday program, White House Christmas. First Lady Jill Biden will appear on the show and give the hosts a tour of the decorated White House, which was decorated by over 150 volunteers.

According to an HGTV press release,

This year’s theme, “We the People,” will “reflect the spirit of America’s shared ideals and the confidence in potential, optimism, and togetherness – a reminder that we are stronger together than apart.”

It continues:

Over 83,615-holiday lights, 77 Christmas trees, 300 candles, 12,000 ornaments, 1,600 bells, nearly 14,865 feet of ribbon, and numerous décor pieces that can be replicated directly at home will be used to bring the concept to life. The White House Christmas special will air on HGTV on Sunday, December 11, at 6 p.m. ET, and on Discovery+ the following day.

What to expect at the White House Christmas in 2022

On December 11, HGTV will film its annual Christmas special, which will star actress Zooey Deschanel and television personality Jonathan Scott, and will depict what the People’s House looks like during the holiday season. This year’s theme is ‘We the People,’ and the White House will highlight what the country stands for and its rich history.

In an interview with The Hills, Scott stated:

“Everyone, including myself, is represented, regardless of where they live geographically. I recently became an American citizen, so being able to enjoy America’s rich history means a lot to me; this is an exciting day.”

The White House Christmas decorations this year include over 83,600-holiday lights, 25 wreaths, and 77 Christmas trees, with over 50,000 visitors expected over the holiday season. The famous gingerbread White House, made of 20 sheets of sugar cookie dough, 30 sheets of gingerbread dough, and 30 pounds of chocolate, will also be on display.

A sugar cookie replica of Philadelphia’s Independence Hall has also been created for 2022. The Christmas decorations in the State Dining Room will feature self-portraits of the 2021 Teachers of the Year from across the country. Similarly, the East Wing will display Christmas trees with mirrored gold star ornaments imprinted with the names of deceased military members and their families.

A menorah made from wood taken from the house during a Truman-era renovation will also be part of the White Mansion Christmas. In contrast, the hosts will be doing more than just looking around. Scott will decorate the official White House Christmas Tree while Zooey decorates the corridors and finishes the Gingerbread House in a behind-the-scenes episode.

According to Jane Latman, head of the home and culinary content and streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., the program has been on the air for nearly two decades and honors the “effort and magic” that goes into decorating the White House.

She continued, saying:

“We’ll provide the warmth of the season once again with a visual feast to please the whole family. The message woven throughout this year’s theme, We the People, reminds us that it is our coming together that makes the holidays memorable, so wrap up under a warm blanket and enjoy the enchantment with your loved ones.”
