Precious Achiuwa is a professional basketball player from Nigeria who was born on September 19, 1999. He now plays power forward for the New York Knicks of the NBA. Achiuwa played basketball for Our Saviour Lutheran School in New York as a freshman in the United States.

Similar to this, he attended Montverde Academy and St. Benedict’s Preparatory School before deciding to play for the University of Memphis. Achiuwa played collegiately for the Memphis Tigers, where he was named the AAC Player and Freshman of the Year. After a strong rookie campaign, Achiuwa submitted his 2020 NBA Draft application.

The Miami Heat selected him 20th overall in the first round. The athlete spent his debut season in Miami before being traded to the Toronto Raptors. In a similar vein, he played with the Raptors for the next two seasons before signing with the Knicks in 2023.

Donatus and Eunice Achiuwa are the parents of Precious Achiuwa, who was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. His parents were Pentecostal pastors in Nigeria, according to sources. As a result, Achiuwa’s line of work embodies the values established by his parents. The football player grew up in a sizable family. God’sgift, God’swill, and Promise are his three brothers, and Grace and Peace are his two sisters.

His family therefore had a big influence on his development as a player and a person. It’s interesting to note that his parents gave him the biblical name “Precious.” For his five siblings, the same holds. Achiuwa also values the role his parents had in instilling the virtue of altruism. In 2021, Achiuwa told ANDSCAPE.com, “My father worked with a lot of children who didn’t have much.”

The NBA player loved giving back to the kids as a result. The Achiuwas saw to it that the kids had food on the tables and clothes on their backs. Later, when Achiuwa was fourteen years old, his parents encouraged him to immigrate to the US.

“My parents are back home, and I’m the baby. It was hard to leave the house. However, they allowed me to go at such a young age,” Achiuwa remarked.

In general, the player has found encouragement and support from Eunice and Donatus. Furthermore, their impact on Precious’ development cannot be emphasized.

Achiuwa Was Inspired by His Brother

Precious From 2011 to 2014, Achiuwa had a standout basketball career while attending St. John’s University.  It is said that God’sgift began playing hoops in his early adolescence. In 2008, he was observed by former Erie Community College coach Alex Nwora while attending a basketball camp in Nigeria. The 6-foot-8 forward accepted a scholarship offer from Nwora and left Nigeria in 2009 to play collegiate basketball.

God’sgift finally transferred to St. John’s, where in the 2011–12 and 2013–14 seasons, he specialized on defense. Precious will be able to attend Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx because to a scholarship he obtained. God’sgift’s basketball strategy and advice made the experience simpler for his brother, even though leaving Nigeria was not easy.
