Matt Filipowski is the son of Rebecca and David Fillipowski, respectively. The Harvard Crimson representative and his twin brother Kyle Filipowski were both born on November 7, 2003. Other brothers he has are Daniel and Taylor Filipowski.

Matt attended Fordham Preparatory School in New York for a year after high school graduation. He was named All-NEPSAC during the season of 2021-222. The 19-year-old basketball star led his high school team to both the 2020 NEPSAC AA title and the Elite 8 of the National Prep Tournament.
During his time in high school, Matt earned 1,000 points. Between 2019 and 21 he performed on the club scene for New York Renaissance. Matt played tennis in 2022 and water polo for the Wilbraham and Monson team in 2019 and 2020 in addition to basketball. Filipowski rose to the top of his class and was given the Algebra 2 Honors Award for the 2019–20 academic year. From 2019 through 2021, the young athlete was placed on the highest Honor Roll.
