Her parents claim that on the evening of February 28, the day before she committed suicide, Stanford “negligently & “recklessly” gave her a formal written notice accusing her of a “Violation of the Fundamental Standard by spilling coffee on another student.”
Stanford had been holding her accountable for her after-hours behavior for a while, and they had been acting carelessly and submitting to Katie.
According to Katie’s father, Steve, the fact that everyone treated her differently likely contributed to her extreme stress and eventual suicide.
Following the filing of the allegations, Stanford was also accused in the lawsuit of causing wrongful death through negligent infliction of emotional distress.
Meyer, a senior majoring in international relations and a resident assistant, was set to graduate this year.
