He got to the second round of the event when he was defeated by Michiel Schapers of the Netherlands as a wild card entry. Tony Mmoh, a right-handed player, earned his career-high singles ATP ranking of 105 on October 19, 1987.

Mmoh’s ascension to second place in the junior rankings was amazing. He made it to the quarterfinals of the 2015 Junior French Open, where he was defeated by eventual winner Tommy Paul. Notably, he won the 2016 USTA 18s Boys’ National Championship, gaining a coveted wild card into the main tournament of the US Open.

Mmoh showed early promise on the ITF Futures circuit, winning three events before the age of 18. In February 2016, he qualified for his first ATP-level event in Memphis, defeating fellow Americans Dennis Novikov and Bjorn Fratangelo. Unfortunately, his journey was cut short in the first round when he faced eventual champion Taylor Fritz, the highest-ranked American teenager at the time.

Mmoh earned a wildcard entry into the Miami Masters after winning his fourth Futures title, where he faced top-ranked 18-year-old Alexander Zverev. Despite a valiant effort, he was lost in a tight encounter that involved two tiebreaks.
