Billy Burns, Miriam Burns’ son, has been arrested and charged with her murder. In August 2022, the 52-year-old was charged with one count of murder.He is said to have no place to reside and used to stay at an Arlington hostel. Billy received free legal help at the request of his public defender, and he will also get adequate medical treatment, including a mental examination.
Miriam Burns, a 75-year-old lady residing at 45 Ardshanavooly in Killarney, County Kerry, was killed at her house by her son Billy. When he couldn’t reach Miriam during the weekend of August 13 and 14, a relative became concerned. The guy then went to check on the old woman’s well-being with another neighbor.
On August 15, 2022, they found her corpse in the sitting room of her house. The 75-year-old man was declared deceased at the spot. Miriam was a mother of four and grandmother to many children. She was dubbed “Killarney’s smiling lady” because of her upbeat demeanor.
She was well-known throughout town for her friendliness, generosity, and fondness for riding. Soon after, a post-mortem examination and following inquiry were initiated to find the culprit of the heinous crime. Billy Burns, Mrs. Burns’ son, was recognized as the killer.

He Arlington Lodge, Church Street, Tralee, was scheduled to appear in Killarney District Court on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. He was remanded in jail and is scheduled to appear at Tralee District Court on March 8th.
Mr. Burns was apprehended on Church Street in Tralee about 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Detective Sergeant Michael Quirke, when they read the charge to Burns and admonished him during the arrest, he answered, “no comment.”
Burns was escorted to Killarney Garda Station before being brought to court at 3:10 p.m. On March 8, the 52-year-old will appear at Tralee District Court. The prosecution on indictment before the Central Criminal Court is directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Billy’s counsel, Padraig O’Connell, urged that the accused get all required medical care while in detention, including mental therapy. O’Connell also sought for free legal assistance on behalf of Burns, who is on a disability pension and lives in a Tralee hostel.
He also said that he will file a bail application at the High Court. On Tuesday, family members of both Billy and his mother, Miriam, were present in court.Billy Burns is scheduled to appear in Tralee District Court on March 8, 2023.
