The renowned Canadian defenceman Bowen Byram has signed with the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche picked him with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Byram, the son of NHL player Shawn Byram, was signed by the Lethbridge Golden Hawks of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League when he was 12 years old. Byram’s father had already given him instructions.
He spent two seasons playing for the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Vancouver Giants after being picked with the third overall pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
While playing for the club from 2017 to 2020, Byram received multiple honors in junior ice hockey, including the CHL Top Draft Prospect title and the Western Conference Rookie of the Year title.
The defenceman signed with the Avalanche for the 2020–21 NHL season after finishing second in the 2021 World Junior Championships.
On the first day of the 2021–22 season, he scored his first NHL goal before going down with a concussion. In 2022, Bowen and the Avalanche captured the Stanley Cup.
