Gilbert Arenas

Gilbert Arenas is a retired professional basketball player from the United States. Gilbert Sr. and Mary Robinson, his parents, had him out of wedlock.

The couple’s relationship did not work out as planned, just as they expected their son’s birth to usher in a new chapter in their lives. When he was six months old, his parents split. Gilbert then relocated to his grandparents’ house in Florida with his mother. His father later brought him to live with him when he was three, drastically altering his life.

Gilbert Arenas played for four different NBA clubs over a decade, winning various titles and awards. With the Washington Wizards, he was at the zenith of his career, scoring more than 20.0 points per game in many seasons. Gilbert earned multiple individual awards throughout his NBA career, including Most Improved Player and three-time All-Star, although he never won the championship.

He joined the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in 2012. Following the failure of his attempts to rejoin the NBA, the athlete announced his retirement in 2013. The former athlete currently co-hosts The No Chill Podcast on Fubo Sports Network. In addition, he talks basketball with his guests on his YouTube channel Gil’s Arena.

Gilbert Arenas’ Parents: Gilbert Arenas Sr. and Mary Robinson.

Gilbert Arenas was born in Tampa, Florida on January 6, 1982, to Gilbert Arenas Sr. and his fiancée Mary Robinson. Gilbert Sr., who was born in Tampa, met Mary while attending the University of Miami. Soon after, they fell in love, and Gilbert was born when Mary was still a teenager.

Gilbert was reared in Miami by his mother and her family until the age of three when his father was still in college and jobless. Gilbert Sr. ultimately got custody of his son after Mary was unable to care for him due to drug addiction. Gilbert’s life changed dramatically once he moved in with his father. Gilbert Sr. was a collegiate athlete who played baseball and football.

As a consequence, he fostered the same desire in his son. Gilbert Jr., on the other hand, preferred basketball over all other sports. When his father moved to Los Angeles a few years later to pursue an acting career, he brought his son with him. Gilbert was a member of the basketball team at Ulysses S. Grant High School in California.

Gilbert Arenas first showed an interest in playing in the NBA when he was twelve years old. Knowing his son’s dreams, his father invested in his development and accompanied him to the academy to practice the game. Gilbert is grateful to his father for not abandoning him in foster care and for raising him on his own despite several hardships.

Gilbert Only Met His Mother Once, When He Was 20 Years Old

As previously known, the former basketball star’s mother divorced him when he was three, leaving him to be raised solely by his father. He always yearned for his mother to become a kid, but she never did. Mary Robinson found her son almost eighteen years later when he was in Miami for a game with the Golden State Warriors during his second NBA season.

Gilbert saw her shortly after the contest, but he was wary at first since he had no idea who she was. He understood she was his biological mother after meeting her, but he wasn’t sure how to feel about it. She gave him her phone number after their conversation, but he never phoned. Mary Robinson, 46, died on March 13, 2010, never seeing her son again.
