Fabien Frankel portrays Ser Criston Cole in House of the Dragon. In the pilot episode titled The Heirs of the Dragon, he appeared briefly as a contestant. On August 21, 2022, its release was announced.
HBO described Ser Criston Cole as follows:
“Ser Criston is a fierce Dornish knight of common birth and the son of the steward of the Lord of Blackhaven. Noble in demeanor, his combat proficiency surpasses that of Prince Daemon.”
House of the Dragon is a Game of Thrones prequel and spin-off based on the novels of George R. R. Martin. The Targaryen dynasty played a significant role in the Game of Thrones series, which portrayed Daenerys Targaryen’s ascent and fall.
The present story takes set 172 years before the birth of Daenerys and 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Fabien Frankel on Ser Criston Cole from House of the Dragon
English-French-Iraqi actor Fabien Frankel participated in the HBO miniseries Ser Criston Cole. Frankel has appeared in episodes including NYPD Blue, The Serpent, and An Unsolicited Portrait, however, nothing is known about his acting career.
In 2019, he also participated in the romantic comedy Last Christmas. Criston Cole won a jousting competition in House of the Dragons, which served as a handbook to introduce characters and establish the environment.
Frankel said in an interview with TV Line that Criston Cole’s character would feature in multiple episodes. Frankel hailed the character as “brave” for chasing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen’s favor after defeating her uncle, Daemon Targaryen, in a jousting competition.
He declared:
“He appears to be a fearless individual. And, as a member of a low-income family, I believe there is a sentiment.”
Frankel continued:
In a world of blonde wigs, there is a man with dark hair and skin of a different tint than everyone else. Consequently, I believe a sensation of solitude exists. As a result, he obtains a measure of self-assurance, enabling him to beg (for the Princess’ favor).
Frankel noted Cole’s background as a commoner. In the Game of Thrones series, the House of Martell and the Lannisters had tense relations with Dorne.
The mention of Dorne also recalls one of the most brutal battles in the series, between Oberyn Martell and the Mountain, Gregor Clegane. It is unknown how Ser Criston Cole will be sent to the House of the Dragon by Frankel.
